A weather station on its own can provide the user with up to date weather conditions and can allow the amateur to try their hand at forecasting. However with the addition of a PC and software the weather station can become a powerful tool, allowing the user to build up a data base of past weather conditions. This can be used to compare past weather conditions to that of today and it can be used to look at weather trends over a period of time.

When I purchased the Davis weather station it came with Weather link software. I used this for a number of years and found it very good but it was not as configurable as I would have liked

Weather link

A few years ago I discovered “Virtual Weather Station” a piece of software that was highly configurable and easy to use. The software also came with the ability to allow the user to transfer weather data to the internet and to provide data to one of the largest weather sites Weather Underground. Click icon on left to see data from this station

Virtual Weather Station

Virtual Weather Station brings your PC to life with a rich array of dynamic and colorful gauges, dials, graphs and charts. The desktop can be completely customized - allowing you to arrange all of the virtual instruments based on your own personal preferences or application. You have literally 1000 ways to display your data.

Another piece of software that can be used with any weather station is Weather Display. This software has been greatly improved over the last few years and is worth a look

There are more software packages available. I have only mentioned the above three, but a look at the links page will direct you to sites that have many more.
